Chapter

Thirty-Seven

Sami

Sami stalked through the battlefield, her aura barely restrained as she passed cultivators.

She may not have advanced martial skills due to the problems with curing her of the soul spore, but her Mind affinity more than made up for it. With her breakthrough to the Sage Stage, she could do her Spirit Whisper technique on nearly anyone on this battlefield and trick them into believing she wasn’t there.

And anyone who that didn’t work on? Well, the one cultivator who she couldn’t best currently had to deal with Ramu—she felt almost sorry for that cultivator—and the rest…

Confidence counted for almost as much as strength in this world. Particularly for those who knew how to apply it.

Which meant all the Sage and Unwoven cultivators who might have considered attacking her thought twice.

She turned toward one dark sect Sage cultivator—or she assumed he was a Sage—who leapt toward her with a spear, an Earth chi attack speeding in front of him.

Sami flooded her meridians with Metal chi, forming a wall in front of her. The Earth and Metal chi collided, shaking the ground and breaking both the attack and defense apart.

Sami didn’t pay attention to it. She’d already sidestepped the spear thrust that followed the Earth chi, having used her Mind chi to assess the man’s position, speed and the angle of the spear for the most likely path he’d strike.

The man’s eyes widened, but before he could do anything about the failed strike, Sami thrust a rod of Metal chi under his ribs.

He slumped, his life snuffed out.

Sami let her Metal chi disappear and the man’s body fall to the ground. She didn’t like being on her own in the battlefield. She’d much rather have Jace at her side like they’d been at the Mute Snake Clan’s hill. But she’d swept the battlefield with her spiritual senses before running down and found that there were only a handful of cultivators with any Mind affinity—at least of the ones she could see clearly. That meant she’d be able to take care of herself well enough since her attention wouldn’t be split between defending her mind as well as her physical self.

Reaching the back of the fight where most of the high level cultivators were, she watched for a moment. About seventy dark sect cultivators had come against the village. Of those, twenty were Sages. One was the Divine cultivator Ramu fought. And the rest were Unwoven or lower.

In contrast, the village only had half the number of Sages, no Divine cultivator, and some Unwoven, Formation and Gatherer cultivators. How they managed to survive so long, Sami had to guess was a combination of the way the dark sect warriors failed to truly work together as well as the villagers’ above average martial abilities.

It didn’t matter much. She and her friends had to finish the fight, and had to do it as soon as possible.

Focusing her attention on three Unwoven dark sect cultivators working to surround a village Unwoven Water cultivator, Sami targeted their minds.
